I'm officially a 'technical character artist' which means, I make characters, and I do all the rigging, exporting, etc. for the game.
The thing is that there isn't always enough character work to keep a person busy through the entire game development. Soooooo.... I got assigned a level. This dev features a few screenshots from that level.
The Canal level (it's in Kuranka Azerbaijan or something.... some little country that used to be part of Russia I think) The Canal level has several sections to it - most of them being outdoors. This is the 3rd section to the Canal levels, and is almost all interiors. It's where Lian was hiding out, Gabe goes there to try and find her, but only finds some Chinese government assassin instead, and the two have to team up to survive the terrorists running around the building trying to kill them.
That's all the story spoilage you'll get from me
Anyways, I made the whole damn level. Modeled, textured, lit, etc.
The particles were done by our particle guy Todd, so I credited him in there.
Some of the lighting was tweaked and re-worked a little by one of the senior level artists, but generally speaking, I even lit the darn thing - EVEN THOUGH I HAD NO IDEA HOW.
This was a... significant learning experience. I don't enjoy level art. bleh bleh bleh.
Bro, you are crazy! I thought levels were like a collaboration thing! I mean, one character is a pain in the crack (they take ages, might have something to do with the fact that Im using blender on a P4 ), I can't imagine developing an entire map! I've played the game, finished it, and I've gotta say, it's second only, and I mean only, to God of war for the list of best games on PSP.
It looks great for a PSP game. Making levels (apart from making them fun) isn't rocket science though, and since you can use pictures for realistic textures, it makes it a lot easier than making characters I think. I'm surprised you didn't know how to do it.
Anyway, it looks cool, and I don't make maps either.
Wow its amazing. And how lucky you are! Rather than have people just admire your work with their eyes, they *experience* your art through videogames. I think its wonderful that a person can make something so amazing and have it so someone can actually walk through it and become part of the "piece". Its a leap from creating something on a flat space and building a world and 3 dimentional space. I always admire how natural a videogame level can look, and then I wonder at how all this was constructed by another human being and I am in awe. (Prolly one of the reasons I like to map so much in MMORPGs >w> )

props to you and your skills.

Really good work.
