I know, you're all probably getting sick of this by now - oh well.
Basically it seemed that no one could tell this character had normal maps for spec on her with the last render. I'll admit it's not the best work, but it's still there. Mostly my BIGGEST FLAW is that I have no idea how to make a good render. I suck at lighting. I just don't get it. It never works right for me.
On the last one I put in a sky light and tried to get this 'clay' look with mental ray, and it really washed out the normals.
Lighting on this batch STILL sucks, but the normals are a bit more obvious. Plus the top-left one shows her with no diffiuse map on - just the normal and specs. Bottom left shows the regular model with all grey and wires.

Aye, I can see them now as well! Much better. Still, displacement mapping would be more appropriate for some of these details, especially the buckles...

One word, Jealous... I am so Jealous of your work, I hope to one day be as good as you... I've only (re)started doing modeling in 3d, in school and I am starting to fall inlove with it all over again. But I hate having due dates, they stress me to the max. Anyway my first character is nothing close to this.
Skylight and normal maps typically don't work too well together. Personally I like MR area lights if I'm rendering out something with normals on it with a bit of AO on top for added shadows

Besides all of this, she's a truly talented artist which is why she's an obvious choice for deviousness this month. Read More

"I am the Storm."
I love everything about her clothes. The texture, the rendering, if that's what you call it... I think it looks pretty good.
